Edgar Allan Poe Tarot

I procrastinated on this project till the very last minute. Due date was 30 November with a one week grace period. I am near the end of the grace period and still have one card to go. I think I may have over-thought these. I tried to find a story to illustrate the meaning of the card. This proved difficult with cards like the Sun. I am still thinking on the 10 of Wands. Here are the three I have done so far.

For this card, I chose Poe himself. One of the meanings of the 3 of Pentacles is mastery of one's craft. Poe certainly embodies this.

For the 8 of Swords, I chose The Black Cat. Being blocked into a wall is a recurring theme of Poe's. Its not a perfect fit because in the 8 of swords there is a way out. Poe does not offer this, but it's close enough.

For the Sun I chose The Premature Burial. I originally had the narrator in the image, but changed my mind as it looked too much like the 3 of Pentcales. I won't spoil the story for you, but it fits for me.

I am still working on the 10 of Wands. I am going to take a break and do my run for the day and then come back to this, hopefully with a clear head and some good ideas.

Imitating Nick

Over at the Recollection Parlor, we have been playing with various challenges. This postcard challenge is called Imitating Nick and is supposed to be done in a style similar to Nick Bantock's. I am not very good at imitating his style, even though I really like his work, and attribute my learning to draw to being inspired by his collage work that incorporates his drawings. Nonetheless, I did take a stab at it, and although I think Nick Bantock would be appalled, I had fun making these.

Work in Progress - Pastel

I have been busy trying to restart my running program, so I haven't been doing much art aside from projects I had already signed up for. However, I missed it and so I started this image last night. It's not done yet, but it is done enough for you to get the idea of where its going. Tomorrow I have jury duty, so my art may suffer even more, but I find I am much more enthusiastic after a break and I have already been brewing up some ideas for when I start again in earnest.
